Categories of Governors & How to become a Governor

Categories of Governors

The Principal is automatically a Governor whilst she remains in the post.

The Executive Principal is automatically a Governor.

Aspirations Academies Trust Governors represent the Aspirations Academies Trust; they are nominated by Aspirations Academies Trust and are appointed by the Governing Body/Local Area Board.

Staff Governors are elected by the staff body and represent their views.

Parent Governors are elected by the parent body and represent their views.

Co-opted Governors (previously known as Community Governors) are appointed by the Governing Body/Local Area Board.  They are usually people who bring a particular skill set or expertise to add to the Governing Body/Local Area Board and may be drawn from local businesses, the local community, charities, community groups, former parents, etc.

Associate Members may be appointed by the Governing Body/Local Area Board to add their expertise for e.g. a specific building project.

Becoming a Governor:

Vacancies for Staff Governors and Parent Governors are notified to staff or parents, with a deadline for nominations.  For Parent Governors, notification would be via the School Newsletter. 

For Co-opted Governors, we would contact local businesses, charities, etc. and request nominations through the School Newsletter.
